Jonathan Hewes, most recently head of international for UK prodco Wall to Wall, has been appointed as CEO for Tinopolis-owned Mentorn Media and Pioneer Productions, effective August 24.

Hewes, a 20-year veteran of Wall to Wall, will report to both Tinopolis Group CEO Arwel Rees and John Willis, creative director of the Tinopolis Group and now, chairman of Mentorn Media. Willis had previously held the CEO role at Mentorn.

Stuart Carter, founder of Pioneer Productions, will also be stepping down from his role as chairman of the company. Kirstie McLure, MD of Pioneer, will now report to Hewes.

Hewes has held a variety of posts at the Warner Brothers-owned Wall to Wall, including head of factual programs, creative director and deputy chief executive. Besides being involved in the development and production of several of Wall to Wall’s most successful series, he also ushered in the move to theatrical doc-making, with the Oscar and BAFTA-winning Man on Wire . Prior to Wall to Wall, he’d worked as a journalist with the BBC’s Nationwide before moving into production via a stint with popular British music program The Tube.

Mentorn Media is behind such series as An Idiot Abroad for Sky and Channel 4′s The Fried Chicken Shop, while Pioneer’s projects include the three-part Treasures of the Earth for PBS’ ‘NOVA’ and KBS Korea, and Science’s How the Universe Works, among others.

“Jonathan brings with him a wealth of industry knowledge and award winning programming experience on the international stage, so we are delighted to welcome him to the Tinopolis Group,” said Rees in a statement. “Both companies are renowned for producing great content for broadcasters around the world, and Jonathan has all the skills to guide them to the exciting next stage of their development.”

“It was going to take something special to tempt me away from Wall to Wall after 20 years, but the opportunity at Mentorn Media and Pioneer Productions, two more great names in UK factual production, is just that,” added Hewes.
