A crash course in fashion’s latest trends and the stories behind wardrobe staples will be explored in two original series premiering on U.S. cable network FYI.
The trend-setting adventure series Get Swank’d (pictured) – premiering August 4 at 10 p.m. EST/PST – is to chronicle the journey of Emily Dees Boulden and Nicole Noles as they travel across the American countryside in a bid to overhaul the wardrobes of fashion-challenged locals.
Produced by Ellen Rakieten Entertainment and Relativity Television, each episode in the 12 x 30-minute order will showcase the Pretty Wicked Moms reality stars providing démodé locals with a crash course in the latest fashion, culture and makeup trends, as well as style tips.
Ellen Rakieten, Tom Forman, Brad Bishop, Jon Beyer, Matthew Vafiadis, Deana Bracken and Michelle Clark will serve on behalf of Ellen Rakieten Entertainment and Relativity Media as executive producers, while Gena McCarthy, James Bolosh and Lauren Wohl will exec produce for FYI.
Elsewhere, the Citizen Jones-produced Style Unzipped will undress the history behind various clothing and accessories, such as the military significance of the pea coat, the origins of the bikini and how the jockstrap was once believed to cure kidney failure and insomnia.
The 9 x 30-minute series – set to bow August 10 at 10 p.m. EST/PST – will feature commentary from such designers, celebrities and stylists as model and costume designer Dita Von Teese and costume designer Arianne Phillips.
“Both of these series capture FYI’s unique perspective on the fashion space,” said McCarthy, senior VP of programming and development for FYI, in a statement. “Get Swank’d delivers gorgeous transformations with humor and wit, while Style Unzipped shares water-cooler scoop about your favorite pieces of clothing in a fresh, visual way.”
