U.S. net Animal Planet has promoted two senior execs in its programming and production departments.

The Discovery-owned cable network has upped Andy Weissberg (pictured, left) to senior VP of programming and Erin Wanner (right) to VP of production.

Weissberg, who joined the channel in 2009 as VP of programming and scheduling, will head up Animal Planet’s programming, which includes long-range program planning and the daily schedule. He will also work across departments to maximize programming across several distribution platforms.

As the head of Animal Planet’s production teams in New York and Silver Spring, Wanner will work with internal and external production companies and continue to serve as an executive producer. She joined the network in 2007 and became the senior director of production two years later.

She has exec produced more than 400 hours of programming, including Fatal Attractions, Monsters Inside Me and Saving Africa’s Giants with Yao Ming.

Both execs will continue to report to Animal Planet’s GM and executive VP Rick Holzman.

“Andy and Erin are great partners and have been essential to our network’s huge leap forward throughout the past few years,” Holzman said in a statement. “In these expanded leadership roles, they continue to help chart the course for Animal Planet and ensure our reputation as innovators as the brand continues its evolution.”
