LA-based distributor Mance Media’s first original production, exec produced and financed by Allied Wallet founder Andy Khawaja, is a modeling competition that offers a grand prize of US$1 million.

Model Turned Superstar is hosted by model, actress and fitness maven April Scott and brings together 80 international models to compete in “daring feats,” ranging from zip-lining through the jungles of Thailand to swimming with sharks in the waters of Bora Bora, as well as more typical modeling work such as runway challenges and photo shoots. The number of contestants eventually gets whittled down to 13 for a two-hour finale episode, which takes place at a Beverly Hills mansion, and culminates in the awarding of the top prize.

Additional locations featured in the 18 x 30-minute series include the Bahamas, Dubai, Hong Kong and Mexico.

Financier and exec producer Andy Khawaja founded e-commerce payment solution company Allied Wallet in 2002. Mance Media, meanwhile, distributes a range of film and television properties, including Zoo Diaries and Cirque Berzerk.

Mance Media CEO and series producer Matthew Mancinelli, via a release, said the company is “in discussions with U.S. broadcasters, VOD platforms and streaming services globally” for the series. It is handling the series’ global sales.
