British broadcaster ITV has ordered one-off wildlife documentary The Hedgehog Hotel from Endemol Shine Group-owned prodco Dragonfly.

The hour-long film will offer an in-depth look at the little-known world of the prickly mammals – including mating rituals and territorial conflicts – by following a cast of rescued hedgehogs as they return to the wild.

Clare Mottershead and Edwina Silver serve as co-executive producers for Dragonfly. Andrew O’Connell is commissioning editor for factual at ITV.

“This film will celebrate this unique spiky animal and its special abilities, from hibernating and rolling into a ball and inform audiences about how to make their gardens more hedgehog-friendly, to help this much loved animal survive in the future,” said Mottershead in a statement.
