Former late-night television host Craig Ferguson is coming to A+E cable net History, with a panel show in which celebs and history experts debate “provocative and timely topics.”

Join or Die with Craig Ferguson, produced by Comedy Dynamics and Green Mountain West in association with Lionsgate TV, takes its title from a phrase that was used by Benjamin Franklin to rally divided colonists, and with added significance for Ferguson, as he tattooed it on his arm upon gaining his American citizenship.

The American public will also be asked to weigh in on the debate topics, ranging from what was the biggest presidential campaign flop to which invention was history’s greatest game changer, via social media.

“Craig is incredibly knowledgeable, but also has a fun way of getting people engaged in history,” said Paul Cabana, executive vice president and head of programming for History, in a statement. “It’s clear this is his passion project and we’re looking forward to having him join the network.”

“I’m a huge fan of History and what they do,” added Ferguson. “I’m delighted to be on their schedule and promise that we will have a lot of fun but we will also stick to the truth.”

Craig Ferguson, Phil Cottone, Brian Volk-Weiss and Jim Biederman will exec produce the 16 x 30-minute series. Tim Healy and Matt Ginsburg are executive producers for History.
