The first project from Seoul-based Buzz Media, the recently established joint venture between UK indie Pioneer Productions and South Korea’s PAAN Media, will launch at MIPCOM next month.

The Mutants Who Made Us (2 x 60 minutes) explores how mutations in our genes have shaped the human evolutionary process.

Commissioned by South Korean broadcaster KBS, the doc was shot in 4K and features aerial photography taken from drones, time-lapse photography, CGI and dramatic reconstructions, as well as interviews with Nobel Prize-winning scientists.

J. H. Lee directed for KBS and Susannah Ward served as series producer for Pioneer/Buzz.

Buzz is also working on another science doc, Making Faces, which will air on  South Korean network MBC in 2016.

“This is a very exciting time for Buzz Media having just produced our first program, quickly followed by a second, which has just been commissioned,” said Buzz Media CEO Patrick Youngtaek Suh in a statement. “We want to create content that is beautiful and innovative in order to engage any audience, no matter where in the world.”
