“Big Brother UK” exec joins Buccaneer Media

The UK indie founded by The Only Way is Essex creator Tony Wood has tapped former Big Brother UK executive Denis O'Connor as head of unscripted programming and development.

UK indie Buccaneer Media has tapped Denis O’Connor as head of unscripted programming and development.

The exec joins from Endemol Shine UK-owned prodco Initial, where in April he was tapped as creative director of Big BrotherBig Brother’s Bit on the Side and Celebrity Big Brother.

Before serving as creative director of the franchise, O’Connor served as Big Brother’s executive producer for three years, and oversaw the show’s final season on Channel 4 in 2010. His other production credits include Celebrity Scissorhands (BBC3), Home for the Holidays (Channel 4) and The Great British Weather (BBC1).

In his new position, O’Connor is to work alongside Buccaneer founder Tony Wood, who helped to create structured reality program The Only Way Is Essex.

“Marrying Denis’s experience on Big Brother with mine on The Only Way is Essex opens up some very interesting new ideas and I’m thrilled to be creating exciting new unscripted shows together,” said Wood in a statement.
