Toronto-based Cream Productions has hired Jennifer Harkness as senior VP of sales and development for the U.S. market, a newly created position.

She will focus on expanding the company’s business in the U.S., creating production partnerships and looking for new commercial ventures. She will be based in Los Angeles and report to commercial director Richard Life.

Harkness will also support Cream’s push into the digital and virtual reality spaces. Cream recently established a digital and VR content lab in Toronto to develop projects for non-linear platforms.

She joins the company from Jumpwire Media, the social media agency she co-founded with Gavin McGarry. Prior to that, she worked as head of development of factual entertainment for Temple Street Productions. Her credits include Recipe to Riches for Food Network Canada and music competition show Cover Me Canada for CBC. She also worked as executive director for the Banff World Media Festival and as a production executive for Canada’s Global Television Network.

“Her experience in social media and creating content that can be exploited across media platforms will prove essential to achieving the company’s goals, as we diversify beyond the traditional television business model,” said CEO David Brady in a statement.

Cream’s unscripted credits include Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan, The Civil War Chronicles and Canada’s Greatest Know It All.
