New York-headquartered full-service distributor FilmBuff has taken the U.S. rights to Patrick Sean O’Brien’s award-winning documentary TransFatty Lives.

Since bowing at the Tribeca Film Festival in April, O’Brien’s self-documented doc about his 10-year journey with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) has picked up a number of accolades, including the New York festival’s documentary audience award, as well as an audience prize from the Milano Film Festival. The realscreen editorial team also recently selected TransFatty Lives as “Best in Show” for the magazine’s MIPCOM Picks.

Among the 124 feature-length docs put forward for Oscar consideration last week, the film will be released in theaters and on major On Demand platforms, including Amazon Instant Video, Google Play and iTunes, on November 20.

TransFatty Lives - distributed internationally by Ro*co Films – is produced by O’Brien, Michele Dupree, Amelia Green-Dove, Darin Hallinan, Marcia Mohiuddin and Doug Pray. It next screens at German festival DOK Leipzig on Friday (October 30). The ALS Therapy Development Institute (TDI) will also host a private screening of the doc on November 13 as part of an annual research summit.

FilmBuff last month picked up Chad Gracia’s debut feature doc The Russian Woodpecker, which is also among the films contending for an Oscar nod.
