Dirk Hoogstra joins Stephen David Entertainment

Banijay Entertainment-owned prodco Stephen David Entertainment has hired the former History general manager to the post of chief creative officer.

Banijay Entertainment-owned prodco Stephen David Entertainment (SDE) has appointed Dirk Hoogstra (pictured) to the post of chief creative officer.

The new position will see Hoogstra tasked with overseeing and driving the development, packaging, and sales of its production slate across the premium content space. He will be additionally responsible for securing international financing and copro deals for the company’s U.S. broadcast partners.

Hoogstra most recently served as executive VP and GM of History before stepping down in September to “return to his roots in independent production.” While at the A+E Networks-owned broadcaster, the exec played a critical role in launching the network into the scripted realm as he oversaw production on such series as Houdini, The Bible and Sons of Liberty, as well as unscripted series Top Gear, Mountain Men and the SDE-produced The Men Who Built America.

Prior to boarding History in 2013, Hoogstra held various development and programming titles at Discovery Networks over an 11-year period.

“I’ve spent the last few months looking for the right person to take advantage of all the opportunities SDE now has with Banijay, and Dirk definitely is that person,” said Stephen David, founder and president of SDE, in a statement. “Because of Banijay, [and] SDE’s ability to finance, distribute and produce premium shows at any price point, Dirk will be able to work with partners throughout the world packaging great content.”
