AMC Networks-owned cable channel WE tv has ordered the tentatively titled series Basketball Moms from Los Angeles-based A. Smith & Co. Productions.

The hour-long series will shadow five Houston-area mothers whose sons play on rival youth basketball teams and dream of being drafted into the professional ranks of the NBA.

The series will feature a range of characters that includes the single mom, the “pot stirrer,” the coach’s wife and the party girl who clash and bond over their friendships and shared dreams of success for their respective sons.

Executive producers on the series include Arthur Smith, Kent Weed, Frank Sinton and Christmas Rini.

“Any show focused on parents, kids and a shared activity has the right ingredients for high drama. Add in the potential of an NBA career and the transformational impact of that on both player and family and you take things to a whole other level,” said WE tv president Marc Juris in a statement.
