The Bear Grylls special featuring U.S. president Barack Obama will air internationally.
Los Angeles-based multimedia studio Electus and Bear Grylls Ventures have inked distribution deals with Discovery Networks International, Channel 4 in the UK and D8 in France for the special episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls.
Filmed in September, the special follows the president and survivalist Bear Grylls (left) as they explore the Alaskan wilderness and observe the effects of climate change in the region. It will premiere in the U.S. on NBC on December 17 at 10 p.m. EST.
The deal with Discovery Networks International covers Northern Europe (with second window on Discovery UK behind Channel 4), Southern Europe (excluding France), Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asia Pacific, and Latin America.
NBC’s Running Wild is now in its second season after launching last July. The series follows Grylls as he takes celebrities such as Kate Winslet, Kate Hudson, Zac Efron and Channing Tatum on one-on-one adventures aimed at pushing their mental and physical boundaries and testing their survival abilities. It is produced by Electus and Bear Grylls Ventures.
The Obama-starring episode is to be produced by Grylls, Delbert Shoopman and Dave Pearce of Bear Grylls Ventures, alongside Chris Grant, Viki Cacciatore and Liz Schulze of Electus.
