Elaine May’s documentary about her late comedy partner and collaborator Mike Nichols (pictured) will kick off the 30th season of PBS arts strand ‘American Masters’ on January 29.

Mike Nichols: American Masters looks back at the late filmmaker’s 50-year career and includes interviews with Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, Paul Simon and others.

The interviews were conducted by film, TV and theater producer Julian Schlossberg, who also did an exclusive interview with Nichols for the film.

The season will also include documentaries about musicians B.B. King (February 12), Carole King (February 19), Fats Domino (February 26), Loretta Lynn (March 4) and The Highwaymen (May 27).

Amy Berg‘s documentary biopic about late rocker Janis Joplin will have its U.S. television premiere on the strand on May 3. Janis: Little Girl Blue bowed at the Venice Film Festival in August and had a limited theatrical run in the U.S. earlier this fall.
