 Asian Side of the Doc heads to the “Venice of the East”

Next year’s Asian Side of the Doc will take place in Suzhou, China from March 21 to 24. Known as the “Venice of the East” in China, is located in Jiangsu Province, about 62 miles away from Shanghai. The seventh annual documentary coproduction market and conference will open its call for projects in mid-January. Chinese broadcasters expected to attend include CCTV9, CCTV10, China Education Television, Shanghai Media Group, Hunan TV, Beijing TV and Heilongjiang TV. The 2016 Asian Side’s call for projects will open mid-January for a month. This year marks the third consecutive year the event has been hosted in China.

Legendary Underwater Collection joins NHNZ Moving Images

NHNZ Moving Images has signed a deal to represent 65 hours of underwater footage from the Feodor Pitcairn Productions library. Shot by photographer and videographer Feodor Pitcairn, the footage includes images from the biodiverse reefs of Raja Ampat, Indonesia; mass spawning in the Gladden Spit Marine Reserve, Belize; creatures from the Galapagos; and the kelp forests surrounding the Channel Islands off the coast of California. Pitcairn’s credits include the five-part series Ocean Wilds for PBS, Ocean Odyssey for Smithsonian and the Animal Planet doc Ocean Voyagers (pictured).

Street Outlaws spin-off to premiere on Discovery in February

Discovery Channel has greenlit a Street Outlaws spin-off series about underground street-racing leagues in New Orleans. Produced by Pilgrim Studios, Street Outlaws: New Orleans follows a group of street racers led by Kye Kelley, who appeared in the last season of Street Outlaws. The show focuses on Kelley’s return to the city to defend his title and build up a crew of racers in the U.S. Southeast. It will premiere on February 22 at 9 p.m. EST/PST. Craig Piligian and Sam Korkis are exec producing for Pilgrim and Craig Coffman is the EP for Discovery.
