Pivot details Knappenberger series, development slate

The Participant Media-owned network's 2016 programming and unscripted development slate includes the Maggie Gyllenhaal-narrated Truth and Power and projects from Sirens Media and Den of Thieves.

Actor Maggie Gyllenhaal will narrate the Brian Knappenberger-exec produced Pivot series Truth and Power.

Due to premiere on January 22, the 10-part investigative docuseries is among the unscripted titles on the Participant Media-owned U.S. cable network’s 2016 programming and unscripted development slate.

The show looks at ordinary people who go to extraordinary lengths to expose corporate exploitation and civil liberties infringements resulting from government overreach. Each episode will feature a mix of interviews, original footage and newly unearthed documents. Knappenberger is exec producing for Luminent Media, with Jeff Skoll and Belisa Balaban exec producing for the networks.

Additionally, Pivot has four unscripted series in development for 2016.

The AMPLE-produced Downriver (working title) is a 30-minute docuseries that follows city officials in the small town of Ecorse, Michigan, as they struggle with crime and municipal finance issues. Ari Mark and Phil Lott are exec producing.

Den of Thieves and Snap Judgment are developing Snap Judgment (working title), a 30-minute series based on the NPR/WNYC radio show hosted by Glynn Washington. The show explores issues of race, class and culture through personal storytelling. Jesse Ignjatovic and Evan Prager are the executive producers for Den of Thieves and Washington and Mark Ristich are the executive producers for Snap Judgment.

In Killer Meals (working title), scientist and chef Bun Lai and invasive species hunter Dylan Bruno set out to hunt down species killing off essential food supplies and turn them into profitable food sources. FishBowl Worldwide Media is producing with Vin Di Bona serving as exec producer alongside Lai and Bruno.

Sirens Media is developing Pandemic X (working title), a 30-minute investigative series that follows former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention epidemic intelligence service officer Dr. Seema Yasmin as she travels into the frontlines of the world’s medical crises. Brent Montgomery, Rebecca Toth Diefenbach and Valerie Haselton are the show’s executive producers.

Additionally, Pivot’s programming slate includes a 20-episode second season of MME/Filmpool USA and All3Media America’s The Secret Lives of Americans and a third season of Left/Right’s Human Resources.
