Discovery Communications-owned net American Heroes Channel (AHC) will commemorate Martin Luther King Day with the two-hour special Justice for MLK: The Hunt for James Earl Ray (pictured).

Produced by Cream Productions in association with Absinthe Film Entertainment, the special will take viewers into the final days of Dr. King as told by those closest to him, while following local, federal and international investigators as their search for shooter James Earl Ray takes them to Los Angeles, Memphis, Toronto and London.

The special will offer unreleased details through exclusive photography and police dispatches in the moments following the shooting, and will feature interviews with members of Ray’s inner circle and those closest to the case. Commentary will come from Vince Hughes, James Papia and EE Douglass from Memphis forces; author Gerald Posner; James Earl Ray’s brother and Ray’s attorney.

Meanwhile, the network’s digital property AHCtv.com will present exclusive content, including additional insights from interviewees and archival material.

Jeanie Vink serves as senior executive producer for AHC, with Kate Harrison, Richard Curson Smith and David Brady are exec producing for Cream Productions.

Justice for MLK: The Hunt for James Earl Ray airs on January 17 at 9 p.m. EST/PST.

“This blue chip special offers a poignant look at all the key players who rose to the occasion in these dark days to track down a killer who managed to stay one step ahead – and to finally bring justice to Dr. King,” said AHC GM Kevin Bennett in a statement.
