Swedish pubcaster SVT has launched a virtual reality app in partnership with WonderWorld VR.

The two companies recently wrapped a seven-day live broadcast called Music Aid, during which viewers could download the SVT360 app to smartphones and watch the show using a Google Cardboard or other VR head-mounted display.

Viewers could tune in to the live stream, which began on December 13 and ran until December 19, via a 360-degree camera mounted in a glass-walled studio in Linkoping, Sweden.

WonderWorld VR is a Swedish-based tech startup that has developed its own in-house software – called WonderControl – that allows clients to ‘stitch’ together footage into VR video that can then be uploaded and broadcast live.

The company has plans to open an office in Los Angeles in January.
