Nat Geo People has picked up the first season of doc series Confucius Was A Foodie (pictured) for broadcast across Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Produced by Toronto-based Mark Media and distributed by Picture Box, the 6 x 60-minute series follows celebrity chef and former Food Network Canada host Christine Cushing as she explores the way Confucian beliefs influence chefs, as well as the ways traditional Chinese cuisines are adapted and interpreted in North America

Production is underway on a seven-episode second season, shot in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Europe. Cushing will look at celebrations, festivals and culinary innovations to gauge how Chinese cuisine has influenced other food cultures and philosophies in Asia and Europe.

Confucius Was A Foodie was co-created, written and directed by Theresa Kowall-Shipp, whose credits include Christine Cushing Live and Recipe to Riches.
