The FYI Development Lab Contest returned to the Realscreen Summit on Monday (February 1), awarding development deals to five production companies.

The collaboration between FYI and the Realscreen Summit – now in its second year – looks to give production talent a chance to develop inventive unscripted content for the network.

The winners, who each received a US$20,000 development deal, were unveiled at a morning session at the Washington DC event moderated by Ugly Brother Studios co-founder Mike Duffy, and featuring Kinetic Content COO Kathleen Burns, FYI senior VP of programming Gena McCarthy and Red Arrow Entertainment Group chief creative officer Michael Schmidt.

Producers who have never previously sold a pilot or series for FYI were encouraged to apply to the Development Lab this past fall by submitting a two- to five-minute-long video pitch and a series paper pitch along with a video pitch of their company ‘s portfolio.

The selected winners are as follows:

  • Dynamo Productions — Real Estate Royalty
  • Vem’s Sweatshop Media and Nancy Glass Productions — New Kid on the Block
  • Goodbye Pictures — Quit to Flip
  • One Louder Productions — Foreign Affairs
  • World of Wonder — Untitled Business Launch Series
