Vulcan Productions and Off the Fence’s Minds of Giants (pictured) and Afriscreen Films’ Elephants Without Borders were among the titles honored at this year’s International Elephant Film Festival.
The festival, which aims to raise global awareness of the plight facing African and Asian elephants, was created in partnership between the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival and the Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
More than 75 preliminary judges reviewed the 250-plus submissions over a six-week period before handing the shortlisted films off to a final judging panel.
Winners were announced at a March 3 ceremony that marked World Wildlife Day at the UN headquarters in New York. All winning selections, as well as finalist films, will be featured globally through local screening events and broadcasts.
“These amazing films speak eloquently to the importance of saving elephants while are still able to do so,” said Lisa Samford, Jackson Hole Festival’s executive director, in a statement. “We’re eager to partner with organizations around the world to raise local awareness and engagement through free public screenings and events.”
