Proper Rights adds latest Mike Holmes series to MIPTV catalog

Toronto-based Proper Rights has picked up international distribution rights for the Mike Holmes-fronted renovation series Holmes and Holmes (6 x 60 minutes). Originally produced for HGTV Canada, the series follows the well-known TV contractor (pictured) and his son Mike Junior, a.k.a. MJ, as they reno MJ’s home so he and his girlfriend, Lisa, can move in and start a family. Proper will debut the series for buyers at MIPTV next week, and the show is to premiereĀ on HGTV Canada this fall.

Viacom to distribute Channel 5 portfolio outside UK and Ireland

Viacom International Media Networks has acquired international distribution rights to the portfolio of content from UK network Channel 5′s in-house production arm, 5Production.

The deal follows Viacom’s acquisition of Channel 5 two years ago and covers all international territories outside the UK and Ireland. It also includes third-party commissions where the network controls rights, such as Lip Sync Battle UK, which is produced by Whizz Productions.

5Production’s credits include Tattoo Disasters, Tribal Teens (3 x 60 minutes) and doc series The Heists That Shook the World (6 x 60 minutes). Channel 5′s content was previously distributed by indie DRG. VIMN’s catalog also includes content that has aired across Viacom-owned nets such as MTV, Spike, BET, CMT and VH1.
