Thom Beers, the veteran producer behind such unscripted powerhouses as Discovery’s Deadliest Catch, History’s Ice Road Truckers, A&E’s Storage Wars and several other hits, will be honored at a special event in Santa Monica this June.
The inaugural “Let’s Get Real” event, to be held on Wednesday, June 8, at Santa Monica’s Viceroy Hotel, will honor Beers for his professional and philanthropic work, and raise funds for the Saban Community Clinic, a federally qualified health center that serves low-income and uninsured men, women and children in the Los Angeles and West Hollywood areas.
The evening will feature a performance by stand-up comic Taylor Williamson (America’s Got Talent, Last Comic Standing) who will also emcee. The event is chaired by APA partner and head of alternative programming, Hayden Meyer; ITV Entertainment president, David Eilenberg; and APA partner and alternative and factual agent Marc Kamler.
Beers, whose career has spanned three decades, was most recently CEO of FremantleMedia North America, and previously CEO of Original Productions, which he founded in 1998. He will be presenting a special Meet a Mentor session at Realscreen West in Santa Monica on Thursday, June 9.
“We deeply appreciate Thom, not only for his accomplishments in the unscripted entertainment industry, but also for his dedication to supporting the disadvantaged citizens of our community,” said Meyer in a statement. “His humanity and generosity more than rival his achievements as a producer.”
“I am humbled and honored to be recognized by ‘Let’s Get Real’ for work I feel so fortunate to be able to do on behalf of the Saban Community Clinic,” said Beers. “To help bring my peers together – outside of our work in entertainment – is extremely gratifying as we band together to support the clinic in its mission to provide quality healthcare to the underserved people of Los Angeles.”
