CBC bringing “Educating” format to Canada

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has two factual series making their debut on its 2016/2017 slate, with one being an adaptation of a popular UK format.

This is High School, a 6 x 60-minute series slated to debut in the fall of 2016, is based on Twofour Group’s Educating.. franchise, which includes such projects as Educating Essex, Educating Yorkshire and Educating the East End. The CBC series, following the trials and tribulations in a British Columbia high school, is being billed by the Canadian pubcaster as “a love letter to teachers, celebrating the amazing work and downright heroism that educators bring to their job every day.” Paperny Entertainment produces, and Endemol Shine International will shop the Canadian series globally.

Also coming to the net in the year ahead is the 7 x 30-minute series True North Calling, which follows eight young inhabitants of Canada’s north as they combine traditional ways with modern technology to navigate living in a treacherous yet spectacular environment. The series, produced by Proper Television, is slated to premiere in the winter of 2017.

Returning unscripted series include Canada’s Smartest Person, Dragons’ Den and Hello Goodbye, while returning doc strands include ‘Firsthand’ and ‘The Nature of Things.’
