Global youth brand and urban media group Trace has tapped Kenyatta Slade (pictured) to head its U.S. business.

The exec – who is the founder of Internet gaming company Mechanizm LLC., Carthage Motion Pictures and Sirius B. Media – will help to launch Trace USA, with a focus on introducing the company’s Trace Play SVOD to the American market.

The new platform aims to be “a less cluttered, contextually relevant version of Netflix for multiculturals of the hip-hop generation,” according to a release. Trace Play is targeted at African American audiences as well as Africans and West Indians in the diaspora.

Trace is a hub for black and urban entertainment content and operates 20 TV channels, including Trace Urban, Trace Tropical, Trace Africa and Trace Toca. The company – which has outposts in Paris, London, Johannesburg and Martinique – also operates digital services, radio stations and mobile services.
