David Gibbons (pictured), formerly chief operating officer at BBC Worldwide, has been appointed senior VP of international operations and technology at NBCUniversal International.
In the new role, Gibbons oversees the acceleration of NBCU’s digital growth strategy while leading the firm’s digital technology teams, broadcast operations, IT and operational service functions, including security and facilities.
Additionally, he will work closely alongside the U.S.-based operations and technology teams to explore further opportunities that will deliver innovation and collaboration across NBCU’s international divisions.
Gibbons will be based out of the company’s London offices when he takes on the role on September 30 and will report into Ian Trombley, president of operations and technical services, and Kevin MacLellan, chairman of NBCUniversal International.
Most recently as COO at BBCWW, Gibbons was charged with implementing the company’s global growth strategy and played an integral role in direct-to-consumer digital initiatives – such as the launch of the BBC Store – as executive sponsor of BBC Worldwide Labs.
Prior to this, Gibbons served as BBCWW’s director of global operations, with overall responsibility across consumer digital technology, operations, property, procurement and global content supply.
With more than 20 years of experience across the technology and operations sector, Gibbons has previously held various senior roles at Nike, Gap, GE Capital, GE Money, General Electric, Cleanaway Holdings and Australian job search firm Seek.
