Australian factual producer WildBear Entertainment has tapped Alan Erson (pictured) for the newly created role of managing director.

Based in the Sydney office, Erson will focus on growing the company’s business. He joins WildBear from Essential Media and Entertainment, where he worked as GM and head of factual.

Prior to that, he was a commissioning executive at ABC Australia for five years. He rose from science, history and natural history commissioning editor to head of documentaries and then served as head of factual. His executive producer credits include Seven’s Australia: The Story of Us, ABC and Maori Television’s Why ANZAC with Sam Neill and BBC and ABC’s Getting Frank Gehry.

WildBear launched two years ago following the merger of Australian production companies WildFury and Bearcage. The firm works across TV, theatrical film, corporate, education and government communications.

The company recently partnered with Chinese factual channel CCTV10 on the two-hour doc The War That Changed the World: The Making of a New China.
