NBCUniversal Hispanic Group-owned NBC Universo has appointed former Viacom International Media Networks exec Fernando Gastón (pictured) to the post of VP of production and development.

Gastón will be responsible for driving the company’s development and production strategy across the entertainment genre, while cultivating new relationships within the creative community. In addition, he will work closely with other departments to develop programming goals and oversee production staff on creative ideation, development and execution.

He will report to senior VP of programming and production Bilai Joa Silar.

Most recently, Gastón served as senior VP of content for MTV/VH1/Comedy Central Latin America under the Viacom International Media Networks brand. During his tenure, he developed and produced scripted series for MTV Latin America, launched Comedy Central Latin America, and led TR3S’s brand strategy for the U.S. Hispanic market.

“[Gastón's] production background will give NBC Universo the upper hand in elevating productions that will raise the bar of original content in Spanish-language cable,” said Silar in a statement.
