Spike spars with Matador’s “Ali: Birth of The Greatest”

The Viacom-owned network is slated to revisit the biggest fight in boxing history on September 9.

Viacom-owned network Spike TV is slated to revisit the biggest fight in boxing history through Matador Entertainment’s Ali: Birth of The Greatest (pictured) on September 9.

Produced by Matador in conjunction with Roots of Fight and Spike TV, the hour-long documentary will chronicle the first bout in a trilogy of fights between boxing legends Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

Narrated by rapper Ice T, the film will recount the fight which took place on March 8, 1971 from New York’s Madison Square Garden amidst a backdrop of race relations, money, power, celebrity and athletic greatness.

The doc will also feature interviews with celebrities from across the boxing and entertainment world, including Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, LL Cool J, Rosie Perez, Ed O’Neill, Brett Ratner, Mike Greenberg¬†and Arthur Mercante Jr.

Executive producers on the film include Jay Peterson, Todd Lubin, Jesse Katz, Mike Greenberg, Dave Larzelere, Kevin Kay, Jon Slusser and Jaimee Kosanke.

Ali: Birth of The Greatest premieres across Spike on Friday (September 9) at 11:15 p.m. EST/PST.
