Daniel Lambo‘s Eternal Silence and Tanya Doyle‘s The Ambush are among the 24 projects selected for the European Documentary Network’s (EDN) 17th annual Lisbon Docs festival.

The flagship EDN program serves as an international financing and coproduction forum slated to run Oct. 17 to 22 in Lisbon, Portugal. The workshop focuses on the strategies needed to create top-quality doc projects and deliver them to worldwide audiences.

The Portuguese and international selections will be developed in collaboration with renowned tutors and pitched to a raft of relevant decision makers of the doc industry. Workshop sessions, meanwhile, will focus on analysis and providing advice on how to tell stories that reach large audiences without sacrificing artistic integrity.

This year’s roster of financiers includes commissioners and industry experts from HBO Europe, ARTE GEIE, The Guardian, Al Jazeera English, ERT S.A., SVT, Sheffield Doc/Fest, PBS, Czech Television, VRT, EO/IKONdocs and CPH:DOX.

“I’m extremely happy with the increased attention for Lisbon Docs considering that we have received 30% more applications than in 2015,” said EDN director Paul Pauwels in a statement. “We also welcome a strong decision-makers panel consisting of active supporters of the international documentary representing eleven countries in which documentary is still a very high priority.”

“We are truly excited to be able to foster the development on national ground of projects with international appeal, enabling these films to boost their current production and creative status with the expertise and experience of a great network,” added Isabel Machado, president of the Portuguese Documentary Association APORDOC, which is co-organizing the event.
