American Latino and multicultural broadcaster has greenlit a 30-minute one-off special set to explore one of the world’s most successful esports franchises.
The 1UP Studios and Mandalay Sports Media-made Gamer Gods: Team Liquid (pictured) will introduce viewers to the behind-the-scenes lives of four esports gamers and their coach as they prepare for the ESL One New York 2016 tournament – which ran Oct. 1 to 2 in Brooklyn – and a chance to walk away with the grand prize of US$250,000.
The doc will highlight Team Liquid as they strategize and develop player tactics as they enter the virtual battlefield against some of the best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams in the world.
Featured in the special are Spencer “Hiko” Martin, Nick “nitr0″ Cannella, Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski, Josh “jdm64″ Marzano of the U.S., and Jacob “Pimp” Winneche of Denmark; and coach Luis “peacemaker” Tadeu.
The film is exec produced by Mike Milanov for 1UP Studios, Dick Glover for Mandalay Sports Media and Bruce Stein for Team Liquid.
Gamer Gods: Team Liquid is slated to premiere Nov. 14 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
“Giving viewers the opportunity to see the stress the players place on themselves to be successful and the sheer amount of effort that goes into competing at this level, is extremely compelling,” said Steve Arhancet, co-CEO of Team Liquid, in a statement.
