All3Media COO Sara Geater has been named chair of Pact Council, overseeing the work the UK independent producers’ association Pact.
Geater will step into the new role in January, replacing Outline Productions CEO Laura Mansfield, after being nominated for the post in the organization’s recent elections process.
Geater had previously been elected as Pact Council’s chair in 2014 but had to step down following her appointment to All3Media as Pact’s then-constitution did not allow for non-qualifying indie producers, such as All3Media, to sit on Pact Council.
A new Pact Memorandum and Articles of Association was adopted in July that allowed all members not owned by a UK public service broadcaster to vote in, and stand for, Pact Council elections.
Prior to All3Media, she spent seven years at FremantleMedia UK serving as COO and CEO. There, she was instrumental in building the company’s new label structure, including the appointment of Kate Harwood as the head of drama label Euston Films. At FremantleMedia UK she was responsible for overseeing such series as Birds of a Feather, Through the Keyhole, Suspects, An Hour to Save Your Life, and the recommissions of The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.
Geater has also served as head of commercial affairs at Channel 4, head of film and TV at Avalon, head of production at Miramax Films, and director of rights and business affairs at BBC, where she negotiated the first Terms of Trade between the BBC and Pact.
She was also recently appointed chair of the BAFTA Commercial Committee.
“Pact continues to play a vital role in driving and promoting the commercial interests of TV, film and digital production companies both in the UK and globally,” Geater said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to building on the great work of Laura Mansfield and the current Pact Council in the New Year.”
Elsewhere, Northern Ireland representative Kieran Doherty of Stellify Media and Welsh National representative Gillane Seabourne of Midnight Oil will retain their respective positions.
The voting window for all other positions, including Scotland representative, is now open and will close on Dec. 1, with results to be announced at the Pact AGM on Dec. 7.
