IM Global Television is launching an unscripted programming division headed up by Emmy Award-winning producer and The Gurin Company founder Phil Gurin.
As president of unscripted and alternative content, Gurin will lead a team focused on creating, acquiring and co-developing content across all nonfiction and alternative genres. The division will also work alongside brands and broadcasters to initiate new creative revenue models while expanding with production and development offices overseas.
The division will work to compliment IM Global Television’s scripted operation, which is led by president Mark Stern. IM Global’s International TV Distribution and Co-Productions unit, led by president Eli Shibley, will represent international rights to content produced by the unscripted label.
Gurin, who reports to IM Global Television CEO Stuart Ford, most recently served as founder of non-scripted indie The Gurin Company, where he was responsible for exec producing and developing thousands of hours of content across myriad genres, including reality, live event, factual and docusoaps. He has previously been honored with three Primetime Emmy Awards as an EP on ABC’s Shark Tank and an international Rose d’Or for The CW’s comedy game show Oh Sit!
Gurin’s unscripted series have broadcast across every major U.S. broadcast network, and in more than 150 countries globally. His credits include CBS’ Candid Camera; NBC’s Weakest Link, The Singing Bee, Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA; ABC’s Wanna Bet; CMT’s Your Chance to Dance and Win Lose or Pawn; GSN’s All New 3′s A Crowd; and Fox’s When Cameras Cross The Line.
Gurin was represented in the negotiation by business manager Alan Goldman of Goldman & Knell and attorney Eric Weissler of Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein.
The Gurin Company, meanwhile, will remain and continue to serve as an independent production company on its existing slate of broadcast and cable television shows.
IM Global Television serves as a joint venture between Tang Media Partners, IM Global and Chinese digital giant Tencent.
“The opportunity to build a robust unscripted and alternative studio, backed by the international resources of TMP, IM Global and Chinese internet giant Tencent Holdings immediately allows us to compete alongside the biggest players in the unscripted space,” said Gurin in a statement. “We will instantly look to build a strong creative team here in Los Angeles, as well as in London, China and Latin America.”
