Digital streaming giant Netflix has acquired the worldwide rights to Jeff Orlowski‘s Sundance-premiering environmental doc Chasing Coral.

Produced by Exposure Labs, Chasing Coral (pictured) tackles the destruction of the world’s coral reefs, which are vanishing at an unprecedented rate. Following a team of divers, photographers and scientists, the documentary sets out to discover why the underwater ecosystems are disappearing and to reveal the mystery to the world.

“It took a village to make this film,” said Rhodes in a statement. “We shot over three years, spent 650+ hours underwater including footage from over 30 countries with the support of hundreds of people around the world.”

Chasing Coral was produced in association with Argent Pictures and The Kendeda Fund and in partnership with The Ocean Agency and View Into the Blue.

Exec producers on the film include David J. Cornfield, Linda A. Cornfield, Ryan W. Ahrens, and Jill K. Ahrens.

Chasing Coral, which debuts under Sundance’s environmentally focused banner The New Climate, marks Orlowski sophomore doc, following 2012′s Chasing Ice.

The deal with Netflix, which will release the film across its digital platform later this year, was negotiated by Submarine on behalf of the filmmakers.
