Former ITV Studios creative director Sumi Connock is rejoining BBC Worldwide this week as creative director of formats.

In the role, she will be working with the formats acquisitions team to collaborate with BBC Studios and UK indie studios to identify opportunities for international acquisitions.

Connock replaces Kate Phillips, who is returning to the BBC as controller, entertainment commissioning. Following Phillips’ lead, Connock will continue to grow the company’s global formats business.

Her remit includes BBCWW’s formats catalog of over 160 titles, including Top Gear and The Great British Bake Off. Charged with directing the development of the catalog, Connock will lead the creative positioning of new formats as well as re-imagining existing formats for a contemporary audience.

At ITV Studios, Connock was responsible for titles including University Challenge, You’ve Been Framed! and Countdown. She also created and developed new returning and international formats including Tricked (ITV2), Yes Chef (BBC Daytime) and Top Class (CBBC)

During her first stint at the BBC, Connock was commissioning editor. She also worked in the British pubcaster’s in-house production as executive producer.
