New York-based film and television distributor FilmRise has acquired the exclusive North American distribution rights to Free and Easy and The Good Postman. Both films will be available later this year on Amazon Prime Video.
FilmRise picked up the doc The Good Postman (pictured), which follows the well-liked local postman in a small, picturesque Bulgarian village near the border of Turkey on his campaign for mayor.
The deal was negotiated between Fisher and Einhorn with Catherine Le Clef of Cat & Docs.
The Good Postman premiered in 2016 at Amsterdam’s International Documentary Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best Feature-Length Documentary, before screening at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.
Free and Easy takes place in a grim, deserted factory town in northern China where crooks and scammers have taken over. The feature is a comedic take on the traditional crime narrative.
The film had its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where writer/director Jun Geng won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Cinematic Vision.
FilmRise opted-in to Amazon Video Direct’s Film Festival Stars—a new program designed to establish a distribution model for films screened at film festivals.
