Fox has commissioned Los Angeles-based prodco Renegade 83 to produce a live reality series that will hand America the power to decide the outcome of real-life civil court cases.
Hosted by Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro, You The Jury will showcase six leading attorneys as they question and cross-examine litigants and expert witnesses in order to argue their cases to America and LaDoris Cordell, a retired judge of the Superior Court of California.
Each case is said to address “hot-button issues that define America today,” from online trolling and free speech, to gay rights and religious freedoms, or whether a death was the result of a tragic accident or malicious intent.
Closing arguments, however, will be presented by the plaintiff and the defendant as they sit across from one another.
Viewers will then have the opportunity to vote for approximately five minutes via text and the Fox Now app, after each case has been presented. At the end of the East/Central time zone broadcast, “America’s Verdict” will be revealed. The vote on the verdict is 100% live and binding and it will reflect the decision made by the American public.
However, when the West Coast votes, if the cumulative votes (East/Central and West Coast/Mountain Time Zone combined) lead to a different verdict, the original verdict will be overturned as the final outcome of the case.
Attorneys investigating the law and the intense human stories behind it include Jose Baez, who defended Casey Anthony; Benjamin Crump, who fought for justice for Trayvon Martin; and Joseph Tacopina, who has represented some of the biggest stars in America.
Other prosecutors include award-winning civil rights lawyer Areva Martin; certified criminal law specialist Mike Cavalluzzi; and Charla Aldous, whose verdicts have been listed by Lawyers USA as among the highest in the nation.
You The Jury premieres April 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
