Former Factory Media sales chief, Sam Thompson, has been appointed by Australian-based distribution company Looking Glass International (LGI) as its VP of international distribution and co-productions.

Thompson joins LGI from Factory Media, where he headed the distribution division of the sports and lifestyle producer. He joined Factory in early 2016 as head of global sales, where he led distribution strategy and was responsible for pre-sales of original programming, in addition to developing brand-funded commissions and brokering co-productions.

Prior to Factory, Thompson was based in Australia where he began his career in international program sales at World Wide Entertainment, before moving to Big Media where he was MD: International and helmed global pre-sales.

With Thompson joining LGI, it acquires Factory’s 55-hour catalogue in deals that have been negotiated by him following the latter’s merger with Squared Up Media at the beginning of 2017. The acquired programming complements LGI’s existing factual titles which span wildlife, science, history, hard-hitting documentaries, travel, lifestyle programming and faraway cultures.

Thompson will launch Looking Glass International’s catalog with 100 new hours at MIP TV before opening the company’s London Headquarters.
