Ben Samuel, formerly with Minnow Films, has been named director of development at Endemol Shine UK-owned prodco Dragonfly.

In the newly created role, Samuel (pictured) is tasked with driving development strategy, pitching ideas to broadcasters and acquiring new business. He reports directly into Richard Bond, the London-based company’s creative director, when he takes on the role in June.

As head of development for Minnow Films since 2015, Samuel has been responsible for overseeing the firm’s development slate, including BBC2′s American Justice and The Chillenden Murders; Channel 4′s Spies and The Watchman; and BBC3′s Miss Transgender: Britain’s New Beauty Queens.

Prior to Minnow, Samuel served as deputy head of development at UK indie Ten Alps – which has since rebranded as Zinc Media – managing development projects across Blakeway, Brook Lapping and Films of Record; and development producer at Windfall Films. He has also held various titles for BBC History, Silver River, Dragonfly, Twenty Twenty TV and Renegade.

Samuel’s appointment follows a recent wave of new hires from Dragonfly, including Tom Pullen‘s appointment in March as executive producer and Richard Bond’s onboarding from Raw TV last November as creative director.

“I have ambitious plans for the company, and by creating this new role for Ben alongside the recent hire of exec Tom Pullen, I’m assembling a crack team of senior executives to deliver the next generation of truly innovative factual programmes,” said Bond in a statement.
