Channel 4 greenlights Ivanka Trump doc
Channel 4 has commissioned a documentary that will delve into the life of President Donald Trump’s 35-year-old daughter, Ivanka.
The one-hour doc, commissioned by Tom Porter, will explore the relationship between Ivanka and her father and whether or not she has her eyes on the bigger prize of the highest seat in politics for herself.
Matt Frei, Europe editor and presenter with C4, travels to the U.S. to delve deeper into the background of the President’s most famous daughter, exploring how much influence she has over the Oval Office.
“President Trump’s daughter has emerged as a major force in his administration and, increasingly, it would seem, in world politics,” said Tom Porter, in a statement. “Matt Frei’s razor sharp insight allows this entertaining film to analyze what makes Ivanka tick and ultimately ask could this be the first female president in training.”
Ivanka Trump: America’s Real First Lady? (w/t) is a 1 x 60, produced by ITN Productions, directed by Lesley Gardiner. It will air in May 2017.
Showtime to premiere “The Putin Interviews”
Showtime Documentary Films is set to release The Putin Interviews, a series of interviews between renowned filmmaker Oliver Stone and Vladimir Putin, the Russian president.
With unprecedented access to Putin’s professional and personal worlds, Stone, with the help of his long-time documentary producer Fernando Sulichin, interviewed the Russian leader more than a dozen times over the course of two years, most recently in February following the U.S. presidential elections.
“If Vladimir Putin is indeed the great enemy of the United States, then at least we should try to understand him,” Stone said in a statement.
During these wide-ranging interviews, Putin confronts the controversies engulfing the relations between the U.S. and Russia today, including his views on President Donald Trump and allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, NATO, and fostering turmoil in Syria, Ukraine and elsewhere.
The Putin Interviews will have its world television premiere on Showtime over four consecutive nights starting on Monday, June 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
HBO and ITV unveil new Princess Diana doc
HBO Documentary Films and ITV have boarded a new doc that will celebrate the life and work of Diana, Princess of Wales, in the 20th year since her tragic death.
HBO has U.S. rights to the film, produced by Oxford Film and Television for the ITV network in the U.K.
The doc will be built around interviews with The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, both of whom talk openly and in depth about their mother and how her influence has shaped their lives.
Their Royal Highnesses will also offer their perspective on the Princess’ unique contribution to public life, including her charitable and humanitarian work.
The film, which will be broadcast on HBO and ITV later in the year, will include individual contributions from many key figures in the Princess’ life and new archival material.
“This film will show Princess Diana in a way she has never been seen before, through the eyes of the two people who knew her best,” said Nick Kent, the film’s executive producer at Oxford Film and Television, in a statement. The producer/director of the film is Ashley Gething.
