Danny Carvalho, formerly with UK pubcaster Channel 4, has joined FremantleMedia UK as the prodco’s unscripted creative director.
In the new role, Carvalho will be responsible for managing the UK development slate into FremantleMedia globally while also supporting international pipeline projects being developed and pitched into the UK market.
The hiring reunites Carvalho with former Channel 4 head of popular factual television Liam Humphreys, who recently joined FremantleMedia UK as CEO to oversee the company’s restructured entertainment and factual divisions, which are moving under one genre umbrella.
Carvalho most recently served as commissioning editor for fact-ent at C4, responsible for commissioning forthcoming series Escape and Old People’s Home for Four Year Olds. Prior to this, he held head of development and executive producer titles at Pulse Films and ITV Studios, respectively.
“Danny is joining us at FMUK to help create big, bold ideas for the UK and beyond, to further harness the amazing talent we have here, both on screen and off, and to encourage even more ambitious cross-genre development,” Humphreys said in a statement.
“My time at Channel 4 has been an amazing experience – it’s been an utter privilege working with such incredibly talented people every day. But the chance to get back into the indie world at FMUK, working in a cross-genre position with a focus both locally and globally was just too good to refuse,” Carvalho added.
