Scripps Networks Interactive has hired long-time Discovery Communications executive Paul Welling to oversee content in its UK and Europe, Middle East and Africa business, effective immediately.
Based in London, Welling is tasked with overseeing all programming and content across linear, digital and VOD/OTT services.
In the new role, Welling will be responsible for developing the strategic vision and guidance for the content and brand portfolio of HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel and Fine Living Network, which are distributed in more than 130 countries and territories across the EMEA region. Additionally, he will set the priorities for the program planning, scheduling, acquisitions, commissioning and digital creative teams.
He reports to Phillip Luff, MD of UK & EMEA at Scripps Networks Interactive.
Welling previously spent nearly two decades with Discovery Communications in a variety of leadership roles, including SVP of international brand and franchise development; SVP, head of channels for CEEMA; VP, head of channels for EMEA & emerging markets; and VP, head of lifestyle & an entertainment.
Prior to Discovery, he worked at Flextech, United Artists, Surveyors and Grampian Television (ITV).
