BBC names Pitch Battle judges

BBC1′s Pitch Battlehas named renowned singer Kelis and choir master Gareth Malone as judges on the Saturday night entertainment music series.

Hosted by The Great British Bake Off‘s Mel Giedroyc, the pair will be joined by a rotating third judge each week, including Joe Jonas, Seal, Chaka Khan, Will Young and Bebe Rexha.

Produced by London-based Tuesday’s Child, Pitch Battle takes singing groups from across the UK and from a wide range of genres to compete in a series of choral challenges. The 6 x 60 format includes five episodes of head-to-head competition between groups, and a final showdown to crown the winning team.

The executive producer for Tuesday’s Child is Karen Smith. BBC commissioning editor is Jo Wallace. The six-part series will debut this summer on BBC1.

Discovery to learn The Haka

Discovery Channel has commissioned the latest documentary installment in the John Eales franchise from Mint Pictures.

The 60-minute project, titled John Eales Reveals: The Haka, will follow the Australian rugby legend as he travels south of The Ditch to examine the cultural, historical, social, communal and psychological aspects of New Zealand’s pre-match ritual: the Haka.

Eales will travel the country from Maori communities in Rotorua to Eden Park in Auckland, and will also feature interviews with some of Australia and New Zealand’s legendary rugby greats.

Currently in production, the special will air in August across Discovery Channel Australia/New Zealand.

Indigenous New Zealand production company Scottie Productions is consulting on the project.

Channel 4 to investigate disgraced British doctor

Channel 4′s current affairs docuseries ‘Dispatches’ is slated to investigate the return of disgraced British doctor Andrew Wakefield.

Wakefield was removed from the UK medical register for a fraudulent 1998 research paper that supported the discredited claim that linked the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine to autism.

In Trump, The Doctor and the Vaccine Scandal, reporter Cathy Newman will look to uncover the links between the anti-science agenda of President Donald Trump and the anti-vax movement, while also revealing how Minnesota is currently experiencing the largest outbreak of Measles since the disease was eradicated in 2000.

Produced by Hardcash Productions and directed by Tom Stone, the film will also feature an exclusive interview with Wakefield.

Executive producers include David Henshaw and Lesley Bonner.
