Donna D’Alessandro has been elevated  from VP of programming to SVP of programming for both Discovery Channel and Animal Planet.

In her new position, D’Alessandro will manage the daily programming strategy for both networks; collaborate across all departments to create and develop series, specials, franchises and initiatives for domestic audiences and leverage those for potential businesses opportunities.

During her tenure, Discovery had its highest rated quarter ever in Q1 2017, among adults 25-34, and delivered year-over-year increases with adults 25-54 in March, said the company, in a statement. Viewership rose in April with the premiere of The Zoo, the network’s most-watched new series since July 2015.

Before joining Discovery, D’Alessandro was VP of programming and strategy at BET Networks and previously served as director of program planning at Bravo.

“Donna is a gifted strategist and her unique vision and programming expertise has proven invaluable to our brands. I look forward to her continued success as a member of our senior leadership teams,” said Michael Greco, Executive Vice President of Programming and Research, Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and Science Channel.
