Multimedia entertainment studio Electus has created Electus Latino, a new division that will create and produce and distribute original scripted and unscripted series throughout Latin America.

Based in Mexico City, Electus Latino will be led by Paulette Bensussen.

Bensussen (pictured) will continue to report to John Pollak, president of worldwide television and Electus International.

Electus Latino will also sell content from Electus International and its third party partners and acquire new formats from the area to develop and distribute worldwide.

“Our development and production will mirror a lot of what we’re producing and distributing at Electus International — strong formats, character-driven shows, engaging competition series.  Paulette will take content from our catalog that has performed really well internationally, as well as content from other like-minded producers,” said Pollak in an email statement to realscreen.

With Electus Latino, Electus makes further inroads into the global market, making formats from the Electus catalog, such as Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Dating Naked, and ABC’s The Toy Box, available for immediate sales in the region.

“The time is right to expand our operations in Latin America,” said Bensussen, in a statement. “Our track-record, cultural knowledge, and wide network of long-standing relationships in the region are the perfect formula to kick-start production of fresh original content for and from the region. We are thrilled to inaugurate our Mexico City operations and welcome networks, talent, brands and producers to take advantage of our expertise and Electus’ global reach.”

Bensussen began her career at BBC Worldwide, h3lping to expand the UK pubcaster’s programming footprint. She was also helped to launch and manage the BBC/Discovery joint venture in Latin America, operating three new pan-regional channels in the region.

In 2001 she joined Scripps Networks as director of international operations with a remit to expand the company’s presence in international markets.
