Authentic Entertainment, a subsidiary of Endemol Shine North America, has teamed with Zoe Saldana’s Cinestar Pictures to develop an American adaptation of the Israeli unscripted format Mothers.

Originally developed by Israeli broadcaster Reshet, the social experiment series follows six prominent mothers — each with a different lifestyle and approach to motherhood — as they explore the diversity of what it takes to being a mother.

Each episode of the series follows the six mothers as they open their homes to cameras crews around the clock before sitting down to watch their most vulnerable moments on film.

The series most recently aired on German network Vox last year, and was just launched in Italy.

Authentic and Cinestar are taking the series out to U.S. buyers, starting this week.

Authentic is the production company behind such unscripted hits as Toddlers and TiarasFlipping OutHere Comes Honey Boo BooAce of CakesBest Thing I Ever Ate, and the upcoming return of Trading Spaces. Most recently, the company hired veteran development exec Sara Reddy as executive VP of development and current.

Cinestar – owned by Zoe Saldana (pictured) and her sisters Cisely and Mariel – most recently completed its new series Mom Ambition with Awestruck for digital platform go90. The company is also currently in pre-production on the forthcoming feature film Honored that will be distributed by Lionsgate.

“This format reached out and grabbed me and it was the same for the Saldana sisters – immediate love for the boldness of the format,” said Authentic Entertainment CEO and co-founder Lauren Lexton in a statement. “It’s part documentary, part social experiment and part juicy soap opera. You just can’t stop watching.”

“We’re proud to be part of this amazing project, which offers a compelling glimpse into what it means to be a mother in the modern world,” added Zoe, Mariel and Cisely Saldana. “Mothers is incredibly watchable TV programming, but it equally serves as a platform for empowering women.”
