Independent UK television producer Zig Zag Productions has taken home the award for ‘Best New Format’  for its Ancient Games format.

The award was handed out at the fourth annual China TV Formats competition. It provides Zig Zag with development funding and an all-expenses paid trip to MIPFormats 2018 in Cannes, France. Those vying for the award took part in a live pitch session before a panel of Chinese and international judges.

Hosted by Shanghai TV and 3C Media, China Formats is a two-day event designed to foster business between the Chinese formats industry and the international content business.

Ancient Games is a competition format that crown’s one modern-day athlete as the winner. Over the course of eight episodes, eight former athletes compete in challenges, games and disciplines from the ancient world. The athletes battle one another in 17 different ancient sporting disciplines and live as competitors would have over thousands of years ago in the Ancient Games camp.
