Channel 4 deputy head of features Alex Menzies is joining All3Media-owned prodco betty as its chief creative officer.

Starting the position in August, Menzies brings a wealth of experience with factual entertainment, having worked on such reality series as Married at First Sight and I’m a Celebrity…Get me Out of Here!

As deputy head of features at UK pubcaster Channel 4, Menzies ordered and commissioned primetime formats across its linear channel and digital channel More4, including such programs as Superfoods: The Real Story, The Shut-Ins, Paul Merton’s Secret Stations, Walks with my Dog and Tried & Tasted: The Ultimate Shopping List.

Menzies joined C4 in 2013 as features commissioning editor, and has also managed a broad slate of returning series, including Grand Designs and Food Unwrapped.

Menzies previously worked at Channel 5 where he managed the launch of Cowboy Builders and the relaunch of The Hotel Inspector before being named head of features. In 2008, he went to the BBC where he took up the position of factual formats and features commissioning executive. His credits at the BBC include Delia Through The Decades, Rick Stein’s Far Eastern Odyssey and Grow Your Own Drugs.

As part of betty’s plans, the company will move to County Hall, working with Layla Smith and her team at Objective Media Group. The group includes OMG labels, Second Star, Panda and Objective Fiction, which specialize in factual entertainment and reality, entertainment and scripted programming.

All3Media acquired betty from Discovery Communications in May. Shortly after, co-managing directors Matthew Littleford and Neil Smith announced they would be departing the company, prompting the prodco’s search for a chief creative officer.
