Jess Search, chief executive of the non-profit documentary-funding foundation Britdoc, has joined Kickstarter’s board.

Search is the first board member to be added to Kickstarter since 2009. Additional members include Perry Chen, co-founder and chair of Kickstarter; Yancey Strickler, co-founder and CEO; Fred Wilson, managing partner, Union Square Ventures; and Sunny Bates, CEO of Sunny Bates Associates.

Britdoc, which was founded in 2005, provides funding and support to documentary filmmakers. It has supported notable documentaries such as Citizenfour, Virunga, Whose Streets?, Hooligan Sparrow, The Square and The Look of Silence.

Britdoc also runs the Good Pitch event with Ford Foundation and Sundance Institute, which introduces social documentary filmmakers to potential partners to get their films made, seen and deliver effective social impact.

Prior to Britdoc, Search was a commissioning editor at Channel 4 and a founder of Shooting People, an online filmmakers network. She is also a board member of the UK think tank IPPR.

This past January, Elise McCave¬†joined Kickstarter from Britdoc as director of narrative film. She most recently served as Britdoc’s deputy director, and was with the organization for eight years. She works alongside Liz Cook, director of documentary film.
