Realscreen‘s content director Barry Walsh has returned to the role of editor, as managing editor Darah Hansen steps down, effective immediately.
Hansen has departed from her role in advance of returning to Vancouver for a new career opportunity.
Hansen, who previously served as editor for realscreen‘s now defunct sister publication Stream Daily, joined the realscreen team in September of 2016. In addition to overseeing the brand’s editorial content, she also contributed to its market-leading events, the Realscreen Summit and Realscreen West, during 2017.
An award-winning journalist, Hansen has spent over two decades covering a wide range of issues from real estate and urban development to immigration, politics and human rights. She had an overseas stint as a war reporter in Afghanistan for Canada’s Global TV and print network and was a national business blogger with Yahoo Canada.
Walsh returns to realscreen having served as its editor since 2009, and as content director since 2013. With a career in entertainment media that spans two decades, prior to realscreen, he held the associate editor post for now defunct sister publication Boards, which focused on the advertising and commercial production industries. Before Boards, he served as editor of Canadian Music Network, a weekly music industry trade, and as music editor for HMV.com.
“Darah has made a great contribution to realscreen over the past year and the team and I wish her all the best in the next chapter of her career,” said Claire Macdonald, realscreen VP and publisher. “I could not be more delighted to welcome Barry back. He has been integral to the brand’s growth over the past decade or so, and his knowledge and understanding of the industry we serve is inimitable.”
